Fuse today announced it has been named a 2024 Silver Military Friendly® Employer. In its second year as a Military Friendly Employer, the company advanced from the Bronze to Silver designation in the under $500 million category. Military Friendly companies are recognized for their commitment, effort, and success in creating sustainable and meaningful benefits for the military community. The Silver designation is awarded to companies who meet the requirements and score within 20% of the 10th ranking employer in their category. Only a select group of companies achieve this honor.

To provide a sense of scope, a recent DOD press release announcing reimbursable pet expenses due to permanent change of station estimated that the new allowance could be used by 227,000 service members!

“The backbone of the U.S.’s strategic bomber force, the B-52 Stratofortress, will soon demonstrate advanced communications capabilities through the new AgilePod, enabling a modernized, further-reaching, more secure communication on the historic aircraft.”

That’s the opening of a press release published on the U.S. Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC) website, spotlighting progress on its AgilePod program.

Nate Dawn, Chief of the AFGSC Strategic Plans and Programs Modernization, Integration, and Technology Transition Branch, is quoted in the article: “Our goal is to accelerate and integrate disruptive technologies onto the B-52, B-1, and possibly other patrol-class aircraft.”

On Feb. 22, test pilots with the 49th Test and Evaluation Squadron completed the initial flight test of the AgilePod.

Fuse is an industry partner on the AgilePod program, as the payload integrator and designer of the TENTaCLE (Tactical Edge Network Targeting in a Contested Long-Range Environment) advanced communications technology.

The U.S. Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC) said that it is undertaking a demonstration to equip B-52H bombers with advanced communications.

“The AgilePod TENTaCLE [Tactical Edge Network Targeting in a Contested Long-Range Environment] program started as an OSD Rapid Prototyping Program, which allows us to quickly provide these needs to our bombers without the years-long timelines required for a permanent modification to the aircraft,” Nate Dawn, chief of AFGSC’s strategic plans and programs modernization, integration, and technology transition branch, said in a May 11 AFGSC release.

So begins an article spotlighting an important AFGSC initiative designed to “enable farther, more secure communications for the bomber.”

Fuse is one of the industry partners mentioned in the article and is the payload integrator for the AgilePod – as well as the TENTaCLE designer.

When defense and industry collaborate to develop tactical edge networking and communications innovations, hardware, software and system advancements typically take priority over integrations.

“Too often, just when the team believes that each of the innovations are ready to test, the ‘last mile’ of network integrations and critically important application flows don’t work as intended, and they’re challenging and time-consuming to resolve.”

That insight comes from Fuse’s Systems Architect, Jason Coe, in his Federal News Network article.

In “Change the Defense innovation game: Use a virtual network test bed from day one,” Coe describes a development process that uses a virtual network test bed (VNTB). Cross-functional defense teams are starting to use a VNTB to integrate suites of commercial off-the-shelf hardware and open-source technologies to validate and experiment with the combined network configurations early in the process.

Fuse, with Raytheon Technologies, is pleased to announce that the U.S. Department of Defense has recognized the companies with a prestigious 2022 Nunn-Perry Award for excellence in the DoD Mentor-Protégé Program. The award recognizes collaboration supporting warfighters by delivering capabilities across major defense programs.

“The DoD Mentor-Protégé Program has been a significant factor in maturing our company’s production process for battlespace networking products and airborne integrated systems,” said Sumner Lee, CEO of Fuse. “We are immensely proud to be selected for the Nunn-Perry Award and are grateful to Raytheon Missiles and Defense for their leadership.”

Nunn-Perry Award recipients exhibit “exemplary protégé growth and developments” under their respective teaming agreements. In 2022, this Mentor-Protégé agreement helped fuel Fuse’s 43% revenue and workforce acceleration – a reflection of key defense contract awards and production ramp up of the company’s warfighter-focused communications and networking solutions.

“Supporting the DoD’s mission to deliver critical capabilities to the warfighter is a top priority at Raytheon Technologies,” said Lionel Boisvert, Deputy Director, Advanced Technology Sensors at Raytheon Missiles & Defense. “The Mentor-Protégé program is a highly effective way to expand the supply chain and foster the development of technical capabilities.”

Established in 1990, the DoD Mentor-Protégé Program assists DoD prime contractors in meeting their Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB) subcontracting goals. The Program has since expanded, providing developmental assistance to Women-Owned Small Businesses, Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses and others.

The Program celebrated this year’s winners and their accomplishments on March 30, 2023 at the 2023 Mentor-Protégé Summit in Orlando, Florida.
